Copyright and DMCA

Jambo respects the rights of copyright holders and expects the people who license content to us to hold the rights they say they hold. If you believe that a film, series or episode on Jambo infringes a copyright you own or are authorised to act for, send us a notice as described below and we will act on it.

1. Sending a notice

Send your notice to the address on our contact page. So that we can act on it without coming back to you for the basics, a notice must contain all of the following:

  • Identification of the work. The title of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed, or, if several works are covered by one notice, a representative list of them.
  • The specific URLs. The exact address of each page on Jambo where the material appears, for example the title's page, its watch page or an episode page. A title name alone is not enough; we need the address so that we remove the right thing and nothing else.
  • Your contact details. Your full name, postal address, telephone number and email address, and the name of the rights holder you represent if that is not you.
  • A good-faith statement. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material in the way complained of is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  • An accuracy statement. A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act on the owner's behalf.
  • Your signature. A physical or electronic signature of the person authorised to act for the owner of the right that is claimed to be infringed. Typing your full name at the end of an email you send from your own address counts.

A notice that is missing any of these may be returned to you for completion rather than acted on. Please do not send notices about content that is not on Jambo, or complaints that are not about copyright; those are answered through the contact page.

2. What we do with a valid notice

When we receive a complete notice we remove or disable access to the material identified in it promptly. On Jambo that means the title is taken out of the catalogue on the website and in the app, its stream is withdrawn from our delivery network, and any offline copies held in the app are revoked so they are deleted the next time the device is online. We record the date the notice was received, who sent it, the work claimed and the addresses identified, and the steps taken.

We also tell the person who supplied the content to us that it has been removed and why, and pass them a copy of the notice so that they can respond to it.

3. Counter-notice

If content you supplied has been removed following a notice and you believe the removal was a mistake, or that the material was misidentified, you may send us a counter-notice at the same address. A counter-notice must contain your full name, address, telephone number and email address; identification of the material that was removed and the address at which it appeared before removal; a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief that the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification; a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the courts of Uganda, or of the country in which you are located, and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice; and your physical or electronic signature.

On receiving a complete counter-notice we send a copy to the person who made the original complaint. Unless that person tells us within ten business days that they have started court proceedings to restrain the content, we may restore it after that period.

4. Repeat infringement and misuse

A supplier whose content is the subject of repeated valid notices will have their titles removed and their account with Jambo closed. Knowingly making a false claim in a notice or a counter-notice may make the person who made it liable for the costs and damages that result, and we may refuse further notices from anyone who has done so.

5. Questions

Anything about copyright on Jambo that is not a notice or a counter-notice can be sent through the contact page. This page describes how we handle notices; it is not legal advice.
